Communication Classes
Classes are available free of charge to parents, adult family
members and caregivers to assist them in learning to communicate
through signing, and provide an opportunity for family members
to exchange concerns, ideas and experiences.
Communication classes are also available for
siblings 6-10 years of age, and for families whose primary language
is Spanish.
Parent Education Meetings
Meetings are offered several times during the year on a variety

of parents, families and LICA staff. The president of Friends
of LICA sits on the LICA Board of Control, LICAs governing
body. Friends of LICA provides monetary support to both our families
and our staff, and the organization serves as a source of information
to parents on a variety of topics related to deafness.
Newsletters
LICA publishes LICA in Action, a newsletter for parents, staff,
administrators, local districts and other interested parties twice
a year. It includes information about LICA programs and state
and national information for families and professionals involved
in the education of students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
LICA also publishes LICA
in Your School for our colleagues in LICA's member districts.
LICA in Your School provides information about technical and legal
issues related to LICA's partnerships with its member districts.
The LICA Board of Control
The LICA Board of Control governs this agency. It is made up of
school board members and school superintendents from LICAs
member districts. The LICA Board of Control establishes the annual
budget, determines policy and procedures, and oversees the educational
and diagnostic programs. The board generally meets monthly and
meetings are open to the public.
